New Information about Lumia Cyan Windows Phone 8.1 for Verizon

Update: Verizon has done the right thing and then some.  They have released the next version of these updates, Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 and Lumia Denim for the Lumia 822 and Lumia 928.  This update will be coming out for the Lumia Icon in early 2015 as well.

There is finally new information about the Lumia Cyan Windows Phone 8.1 update for Verizon phones.  A Microsoft website (former Nokia website) has changed its status from under testing to under development.

Lumia Cyan Update under developement for Verizon

Lumia Cyan Update under development for Verizon

It is not clear exactly what Under Development means but I think it means that an update is finally getting close, hopefully before the holidays.  Many users of the Lumia 822, Lumia 928, and Lumia Icon have gotten impatient with Verizon on how long this update has taken and Verizon has been quiet about the whole thing.  I reached out to Verizon almost a month ago and did not get a reply.  Lets hope this means that this update is getting close.  Earlier this month T-Mobile made the Lumia Cyan and Windows Phone 8.1 updates available for the Lumia 521 and Lumia 925 and Metro PCS made that same update available for the Lumia 521 on its network.  Verizon is now the last one to have not released the update.  Lets just hope we don’t end up like Lumia 520 users on Cricket who blocked this update from those phones.

As of today (12/18/14) the MS website linked above no longer shows “under development” for the Verizon lumias. It now just shows the available firmware & software. It shows Black/8.0 for all Verizon lumia including Icon with no explanation. Time for more serious class action lawsuit.

Actually Verizon has released Cyan and the next firmware Denim for the Lumia 822 and 928. This will also be released for the Icon in early 2015. We are now ahead of everyone else for once.

Thanks for this news Bryan. When I saw the update availability site change that I posted on earlier last month, all of the Verizon lumia products were stuck on Black. I was so disappointed that I stopped checking. Let’s hope that the Icon is next in line. I suppose that there is some truth to the old saying that “a watched pot never boils” so I am going to just wait it out with no more checking on the update availability.
