Install Windows 8 on Acer Aspire 5315-2826

I have to admit, the Acer Aspire 5315-2826 was one of the easiest Windows 8 installs I have done yet, and to top it off Windows 8 runs well on here.  This is another laptop that came with Windows Vista Home Basic but it is up to the upgrade.  For this test I did a clean install of Windows 8 Enterprise, keeping nothing, but you can do a migration keeping your files and settings but not your installed programs.

I booted from the DVD and installed Windows 8 and then ran Windows Update.  Keep running Windows Update till there are no more updates to install.  This installed the only missing driver which was for the graphic card.  After this, you will have a clean Device Manager and be ready to go.

This Acer Aspire is not such a bad performer for being a low model laptop.  The laptop does not support processor virtualization so you can not run Hyper-v 3.0.  I ran Passmark Performance Test which got a 248.9 however I was not able to run the Windows Experience Index, it would error out while testing the graphics.  To be fair the graphic chipset is very old so I will cut it some slack. If anyone can run the Windows Experience Index in Windows 8 on one of these machines please post the results in the comments.

This is not the fastest machine but it seems to run Windows 8 alright, I would suggest the upgrade to anyone looking to check out Windows 8.

hey i also upgraded to windows8 recently in my acer 5315 but within 10 days my laptop graphic chipset became dead. It might be due to high graphic needed for window 8. Thus i warn its risky .

I highly doubt that Windows 8 was the cause of the graphic chipset dying. These laptops are getting old, and since Microsoft did away with Aero Glass Windows 8 is less intense with graphics. It was just its time. Lucky you, you can get a touch screen laptop now. I just got one for my wife and it is an Acer ultrabook. She loves it.
